Because we Can

caveat emptor
Sometimes things catch your attention in ways that don’t seem related to the context in which you encounter them. There’s been a discussion on IT Forum this week with a sub-theme of what might count as Web-2.0 competencies for learning, which turns out to be different from simply using.   There was a lot of chatter about blogs, wikis, social networks, and all the other cool 2.0 things and what you could do with them, but some how I started thinking, “We’re stuck inside the box.”  Counter-measures then; you’re free to make of them what you will.  First the latest viral from Kevin Kelly Better Than Free. Then from Tom Haskins Cultivating a global mind; this one has lots of links that are worth exploring.

These are safe, recommended even, but the week has also brought somethings I don’t know how to deal with.  One is a mashed-up, sub-titled music video from India by way of the Gibson Blog, that is imho hysterically funny, which probably comments on my provincialism.  It’s also real food for thought, and so potentially offensive that I resist posting a direct link in this forum.   The second is another viral video; one which would entertain de Sade, though there’s no apparent pain or violence, just two women and all manner of excrement.  I survived the experience but I’m not sure exactly how, or what my survival means.  I wouldn’t recommend it, but then again our world view needs to encompass such things. Still, I don’t know what competencies would be required to ‘make sense’ of all this.
